Do-San

Do-san is the pseudonym of the patriot Ahn Ch'ang-Ho (1876-1938).


Ahn Ch'ang-Ho devoted his life to furthering the education of Korea and its independence movement.

Number of movements: 24
Starting position: Parallel ready stance (Narani Chunbi Sogi) on X facing towards D.
  1. Turn 90 degrees to face B, move left leg into left walking stance, simultaneously performing a high section outer forearm block.
  2. Same stance, middle section reverse punch (1 & 2 to be performed in consecutive motion).
  3. Bring the left foot across in line with the right foot and step turn 180 degrees clockwise to face A in right walking stance, simultaneously performing a high section outer forearm block.
  4. Same stance, middle section reverse punch (3 & 4 to be performed in consecutive motion).
  5. Move left leg to face D in right L stance, simultaneously performing a middle section knifehand guarding block.
  6. Step forward to D, right walking stance, straight fingertip thrust.
  7. Twist the right hand together with the body anti-clockwise until the palm faces down. Continue to pivot through 360 degrees anti-clockwise to face D in left walking stance, simultaneously performing a left high backfist side strike.
  8. Step forward to D in right walking stance, simultaneously performing a right high backfist side strike.
  9. Pivot 270 degrees anti-clockwise to face E in left walking stance, high section outer forearm block.
  10. Same stance, middle section reverse punch (9 & 10 to be performed in consecutive motion).
  11. Bring the left foot across in line with the right foot and step turn 180 degrees clockwise to face F in right walking stance, simultaneously performing a high section outer forearm block.
  12. Same stance, middle section reverse punch (11 & 12 to be performed in consecutive motion).
  13. Move left leg to face towards C (approx 15-20 degrees off line towards A) in left walking stance simultaneously performing a high section outer forearm wedging block.
  14. Keeping block in position, right middle section front snap kick.
  15. Place right foot down into right walking stance simultaneously performing a middle obverse punch
  16. Middle reverse punch (15 & 16 to be performed in fast motion).
  17. Move right foot to face towards C (approx 15-20 degrees off line towards B) in right walking stance simultaneously performing a high section outer forearm wedging block
  18. Keeping block in position, left middle section front snap kick.
  19. Place left foot down into left walking stance simultaneously performing a middle obverse punch
  20. Middle reverse punch (19 & 20 to be performed in fast motion).
  21. Move left foot diagonally into left walking stance facing C, simultaneously performing a rising block.
  22. Step forward to C in right walking stance simultaneously performing a rising block.
  23. Pivot 180 degrees anti-clockwise, left foot towards B in sitting stance, simultaneously performing a knifehand strike towards B.
  24. Bring left foot to right, then right foot towards A in sitting stance, simultaneously performing a knifehand strike towards A.
When finished: Bring right foot back to X, in parallel ready stance facing towards D.

Do-San is a pseudonym of the patriot Ahn Ch'ang-ho. The 24 movements represent his entire life. Many consider Ahn Ch'ang-Ho to be one of the key moral and philosophical leaders of Korea during the 20th century. In the turmoil immediately before and during the Japanese occupation of Korea, he called for the moral and spiritual renewal of the Korean people through education as one of the important components in their struggle for independence.
